Noisey Analysis –


The format of this is that, it is a YouTube series because there are a continuous amounts of episodes on different people, who are famous for music or who are just famous. Because it is a YouTube series, it has two seasons consisting of 13 videos in total. The purpose of the Noisey documentary on Vince Staples, is too inform people what Vince Staples or the person they are filming does on daily basis, how they make they make their money and who they are. The platform that this is broadcasted on is YouTube and it also available to view or watch on the Noisey website. These continuous documentary on YouTube are targeted for people who are music listeners and are interested in music. Also, it may just be for people who like the person that is being film and interviewed.

The key techniques that are being used in this documentary are observation and interviews. An example of this, is that in one scene they will show the person being filmed doing a live performance then, it will cut to where the person is talking and then back to the performance. They use this filming technique to help illustrate how his performances are and how the atmosphere. The cutting rate in between the change of scene is slow, so that it creates a parallel narrative showing by showing things he is doing while, he is talking about it.

For my target audience, I began looking at the age of my target audience. I focused on the demographic age group of 16 to 18 but, I did not want to put a limit or cap on what the age of my target audience was. I have identified the age group of 16 to 18 based on my primary research of knowing people, who consistently down to the area of Brick Lane to purchase pieces of clothing, household items, food or people who use as a place to hangout. When looking at the gender for target audience, I did not give a specific gender, as I wanted my target audience to reach a wide range of people. My target audience was also people who were looking for areas and places that welcome diversity, areas that have stores and shops that sell vintage clothing for cheaper prices than, in the original stores. I felt as though this would be an appropriate demographic of people because, I feel as though my documentary would help make them aware of these shop that are selling people great and exclusive stuff cheaper. My audience may respond differently depending on whether they like second and used clothes or if they like spending more money in shops that more popular depending on their preference and what they like. With feedback for my target audience, I will be begin by talking about the negatives and how I could have corrected them. Firstly, I had been constructively criticised about my vocal recordings not being consistent enough through the entirety of the film. It was described as being flat and being unclear at some points in the documentary. With this I believe that I should tried to be more enthusiastic and consistent with my vocal recordings. I believe that because, I kept on having to repeat the same thing over and over again because, I hadn’t imported the recordings had made me become restless and I believer it is the reason for my voice not sounding as enthusiastic as it is in the beginning of the documentary. Another criticism was that, I had cut some of the scenes to quickly (Panning of the clothing). I believe this had happened because, I was advised about some of the footage I had recorded being to shaky. This was because, I hadn’t used a tripod to record the first set of footage that I had done when I had originally filmed in brick lane. I had gone back after I was told this and re-shot these scenes. Even though I had shot these scenes I had failed to keep the camera still, even with the usage of the tripod. I believe that practicing with a camera to try perfect my hand holding camera skills. Also, when I repeated the name of artist Dale Grimshaw, i just wanted to clarify that there was a space between the name Dale and Grimshaw. This is because on the image, it says his name all in one as, “DALEGRIMSHAW” and I just wanted the audience to know that. On to the positives of my short documentary. Firstly, the use of the interview was very effective, as my target audience thought it was very informative and it good because, they were points that were factual and related to subject on hand. My target audience also believed that it was very well constructed, as it had a clear order going from one topic to another and ending on the interview and recordings with other people. They also enjoyed the use of talking about the meanings of the street art and this made them want to go to the area and look at the other pieces of art. They also liked the fact that I had given credit to street performers, so that if they liked what they were doing, they themselves could go and look up the artist. Also, they had commented on how the music had complimented the theme of the video, how the video had a good concept behind it and was insightful.


Title –

For the ending of my short documentary, I wanted to use just simple credits. But threw my analysis of documentaries, I noticed that a lot of them have usage of the title credits rolling down or across the screen. I had taken the idea from the documentaries I had watched and put in my own

Final Cut

Here is the final cut for my short documentary on the area of brick lane. I believe that with more time, i would have created a more sufficient documentary that would have more to talk about and had the use of more structured interviews to give views from a wider range of people. I think this would better the documentary cause it would show the opinions of different types of people such as students, workers, store owners, tourist etc etc.
