On this day, our media teacher Robert Dennis had given us a short lecture on documentaries. He had told us the all the different types documentaries you could make such as, expository, observational, poetic, participatory, reflexive and performative. Rob had focused on the main types of documentaries such as the expository mode – which focuses on the voice of god and tends to be informative and has someone explaining the subject that is being represented. The observational mode, where it is compared to as the “fly on the wall” with no voice overs/ narrations without explaining what is going. Participatory mode is the encounter between the film maker and the subject: taking part.
